A laboratory-grown diamond is pure crystallised carbon, grown in a laboratory from a small diamond seed. It has the same chemical, physical and optical properties as a diamond formed in the earth: the same hardness, the same sparkle and the same grading by cut, colour, clarity and carat. Only its origin is different, and Indian rules (IS 19469:2025) require it to be sold as a "laboratory-grown diamond", which is how every Luminique stone is described.

No. American diamond (AD) is cubic zirconia, a different, softer material that only imitates a diamond and scratches and clouds over time. A laboratory-grown diamond is carbon, scores 10 on the Mohs hardness scale and is graded and certified like any diamond. Moissanite and zircon are also different materials, not diamonds.

No. A laboratory-grown diamond and an earth-formed diamond are structurally the same stone. Even a trained gemologist examining it under a professional loupe cannot tell them apart. The only instruments that can detect the difference are highly specialised laboratory machines that read microscopic variations in growth patterns, the kind used by professional laboratories.

Yes. A standard thermal or conductivity diamond tester reads a laboratory-grown diamond as diamond, because it is diamond. Only advanced laboratory equipment can tell a laboratory-grown diamond from an earth-formed one, which is why the certificate matters.

No. A laboratory-grown diamond keeps its colour and clarity for life. It can collect oil and dust like any diamond; soak it in warm soapy water and brush it gently with a soft toothbrush to bring back the sparkle.

CVD (chemical vapour deposition) and HPHT (high pressure, high temperature) are two ways of growing a diamond. Neither is better by itself; what matters is the finished stone's cut, colour and clarity. Luminique uses VVS-VS clarity and D to F colour stones, and the IGI or SGL report records how each certified stone was grown.

IGI (International Gemological Institute) and SGL are independent laboratories that grade the diamond and record its carat, colour, clarity and cut. Yes. Every Luminique diamond comes with an independent grading certificate from renowned laboratories, the same institutions that certify earth-formed diamonds globally. All gold used in our jewellery is BIS Hallmarked and carries a unique HUID, which confirms the purity of the metal.

GIA grades laboratory-grown diamonds with its own separate report system. Luminique uses IGI and SGL, the two labs most widely used for laboratory-grown diamonds in India.

The price difference comes from the supply chain, not the quality. an earth-formed diamond passes through extraction operations, multiple intermediaries, and years of logistics before it reaches a jeweller. A laboratory-grown diamond does not. That reduction in cost is reflected in the price. The stone itself, its hardness, brilliance, and grading, is the same.

Prices depend on gold weight at the day's gold rate, the total diamond weight and the making. In 9KT gold, Luminique rings start from about ₹15,000 and most are under ₹1 lakh; earrings and pendants start from about ₹22,000 to ₹25,000; bracelets and necklaces carry more stones and gold and are priced higher. Yes, at Luminique. Our lifetime buyback pays 85% of the current market value of the laboratory-grown diamonds and 100% of the current market value of the gold. Yes. Since July 2025, 9KT gold (37.5% pure gold) must carry a BIS hallmark with a 6-digit HUID, like 14KT and 18KT. Gold in any Luminique piece, including 9KT, is valued at 100% of the current market value under our lifetime exchange and buyback.

9KT is 37.5% gold and the lightest on price. 14KT is 58.5% gold and very hard-wearing. 18KT is 75% gold with the richest colour. All three come in rose, white and yellow gold and are BIS hallmarked.

Yes. It is the hardest gemstone. For daily wear, 9KT and 14KT gold are the most hard-wearing, and low settings such as bezels and low prongs catch less. Take jewellery off for the gym, swimming and cleaning with chemicals.

Astrology is a personal belief, and astrologers differ on this. A laboratory-grown diamond is the same carbon crystal as an earth-formed diamond, but if you are buying for astrological reasons, ask your astrologer which stone they recommend before you order.
